The Master of Art Therapy is the only program of its kind in NSW, and one of only three such programs in Australia.
This clinical training program shows you how to use visual art media within a therapeutic relationship to help people in distress. You will emerge with the theoretical knowledge and practical experience required to work as an art therapist in a wide variety of contexts.

An undergraduate degree or higher in visual arts, fine arts, art education, design, architecture or visual media (e.g. photography, film, video, television); OR an undergraduate degree in any discipline with at least two subjects in visual arts, art education or design at university level; OR a Vocational Education and Training (VET) Diploma of Visual or Fine Arts; OR an undergraduate degree in any discipline with five years full-time equivalent professional experience and training in the visual arts supported by written evidence satisfactory to the School of Social Sciences; OR successful completion of Master of Social Science (Studies in Art Therapy) at Western Sydney University. Applicants are required to submit a 500-word statement of intent; a compressed digital portfolio of 10-12 photographs of their artwork; a full CV detailing at least one year full-time or regular part-time work experience (paid, voluntary or student experience) in a supportive capacity in community, welfare, health, arts or education settings; and two referee reports. Applicants may be required to attend a group interview.
