Master of Teaching (Primary)
Course Overview
The Master of Teaching (Primary R-7) consists of 72 units over two years, taken as 36 units per year in a full-time load or the equivalent on a part-time basis. The study program includes an introduction to teaching and research in the Education profession, researching learners and learning, and teachers as researchers as well as relationships for learning and teaching. Primary curriculum topics will deal with teaching in and through the expressive arts as well as thinking and working scientifically in the primary years, with numeracy and ICT. Topics will discuss differentiation and inclusive educational practices, and teaching Indigenous Australian students. Literacy in a changing educational context will be analysed with curriculum studies and reflective practices. Health and physical education as well as the social sciences curriculum studies for history, geography and civics will be included. Language specialist teachers can choose a languages strand if they meet the criteria of two years undergraduate study in a language. The strand will include two topics related to languages pedagogies, literacy and intercultural understanding. The program will include the required professional experience placements with preparation lectures and preliminary work leading to the placements.
